Nesting Place: I did it in 10 Minutes (bedroom) Finale!

20 Feb

On e of my favorite blogs, Nesting Place, has these great tutorials on how to transform your space in 10 minutes. Today she is having a finale and everyone is posting their 10 minute projects. I decided to do my bedroom.
Here are the steps she suggested:

1. Make the bed: I found a pretty duvet at Target and added a bedskirt, shams and pillows from Pottery Barn. With coordinating sheets. It feels so wonderful! I love pillows (as you can see).

2. Clear the clutter. Our bedroom seems to be a catchall for toys, books, sippy cups and whatever else the kids are dragging around. So I cleared that out.

3. Keep it personal. Our room only had pictures of the kids. So I found one of the two of us and put it in a special spot!

4. Go wireless. I took the alarm clock off one of the nightstands. The tv I have behind an armoire in case we ever need it. She also suggests to bring the outdoors in so I brought some tulips in to freshen up the space!

5. Lighting. We installed little lights on the wall above the bed for latenight reading and to clear up space on the night stands. I love it!

6. A place to sit. I put a little bench at the end of the bed. It is a nice space to sit and put on my shoes in the morning. We also have a little sitting area in an alcove which is sunny in the afternoons and great for reading or taking a nap.

7. Create space. I have a tiny closet and needed more space, so we bought a unit from IKEA and installed it on one wall of the bedroom with a mirror in the middle. The mirror is great for checking my outfit before I leave each morning. I added a personal touch by buying some special knobs from Anthropologie to spif it up a little.

So that it! I love my bedroom! Thanks Nesting Place. Go over and check out the party and all of the great projects!!!

New Spring scarf! I found it at Charlotte Russe ($8) — It’s nautical!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook for February 16, 2009

17 Feb

FOR TODAY, February 16th, 2009 …

Outside My Window…
Today was overcast. It snowed this morning for a bout 2 hours and then cleared up. The sun came out in the afternoon – yay! They say a big storm is coming in tonight and that it will snow all day tomorrow.

I am thinking… About what a wonderful crazy week I had last week. It started out with meeting my wonderful friend Marie.

Then we had our Gently Used Boutique at church.

We ended up getting tons of great donations. I have a great committee and they put in so much work! We also had a super turn out. One of the ladies on my committee knows some people who run a food storage company and she brought all kinds of tasty soups, cornbread and cookies for everyone to sample. After we were done, we packed up the rest of the donations and they went to a neighborhood that could really use them. There were also some people who had some African refugee families in their wards who came to get things for those families.

I am thankful for…
My sweet son Nick. He turns 15 tomorrow – I can’t believe it!
It seems like yesterday that he was born and I was looking into his sweet little face in the hospital. I was surprised at how much I loved him from the moment I saw him. He is such a sweet, caring, smart, wonderful person. I don’t even have the words to say how much he means to me! Happy Birthday sweet Nick!!!

I am wearing…
The usual uniform of black sweater, jeans and boots. We worked at the temple open house this morning. I worked running cookies up and down to the stage to the tables. I figured that we went through 6,000 cookies during my shift! It was quite busy since it was a holiday today. working there was really wonderful, but lots of running around. My mistake was wearing high heeled boots. After 4 hours, my feet were KILLING me. I came home and put on my comfy boots and jeans so we could run up to m y nephew Tristin’s birthday party this afternoon.

Happy Birthday Tristin!
(We have 4 birthdays this week in our family)

I am creating…
I got a little crafty this weekend and made a few bracelets.

I am reading…
The last Shopaholic book. We went to see the movie this weekend. It was really cute!

I am hoping…
To get some projects done this week. I cleaned out my pantry last week.

I got into a cleaning frenzy on Tuesday night, when I should have been focusing on the boutique. I think when I get under stress that I distract myself with other projects. It looks much better now though!

I am hearing…
Quiet! Everyone is asleep – but me!

Around the house…
The house is a mess, but I will deal with that t omorrow…

One of my favorite things…
My favorite time of the night is when I am going to sleep. Jeff turns on my electric blanket. After I am through getting ready for bed, I climb into my warm, toasty bed, pull the covers up and read…

Another of my favorite things are my blogging friends. One of my first commenters, Duckie – from A Duck In Her Pond, gave me this award:

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week…
After a three day weekend, and being gone most of the day at the open house, I need to clean things up around here. Tomorrow is Nick’s birthday and then Hayley’s is on Saturday. I am also having the church ladies over on Saturday for the quarterly “Birthday Brunch”. So I need to get things cleaned up before they all come over.

Creative Fridays:Stylish storage bins & GIVEAWAY

13 Feb

Welcome to my Creative Fridays. I am not the most organized person. In January I went through my daughters’ closets, cleaned them out and tried to make them neat. I put most of their toys in their closets but found that some of the larger items would not fit on the shelves. What to do? I went to IKEA and found these unfinished storage containers. They are quite big – 22 wide, 12 inches high, 13 inches wide. I got out my handy spray paint and went to work. Two coats of off-white paint did the trick. I found three coordinating scrapbook papers and decoupaged them onto the front panels of the containers. I used mod podge. I let it dry and then put the containers together. Now I have a place for all of those big Littlest Petshop houses, Pony castles, and My Twinn Doll tents and accessories. I finished them off by printing out some pictures of Ella and attached the pictures to some scrapbook frames using Gorilla Glue.
I added the wheels so she can push the containers around her room while she’s playing or into her sister’s room for play dates. I used Gorilla Glue to attach the wheels to the carts.

Tasty Tidbits Thursday:Suprise Treat & what’s in my bag???

13 Feb

Jeff came home from his business trip and brought me a special Valentine treat!

{I might be a little obsessed with these…}

{Trixie even got her own Doggie Valentine treat!}

And since I have been so impressed with all of the treats everyone’s making all over blogland, I tried my hand at a couple:

A very darling blogger, Carrie tagged me in a fun game called — What’s in your bag?

Here are the rules for the tag:

1. Post a picture of whatever bag you are today – not last weekend when you and your hubby went out to that fabulous restaurant. No cheating!!!

2. Tell us how much it cost. This is a no-judgment zone — there will be no ridiculing or eye rolling here. And, if there is a story to go along with how you obtained it, I’d love to hear it.
3. Now tag some fellow bloggers and link back to this post so people know why you are posting pictures of your bag.

This is the purse I have used lately. I actually got it at Target (I know – where else?) on a whim. I was leaving for my trip and was looking for a tote to carry on the plane. I wanted something to carry my magazines, books, treats, etc. besides my purse. I didn’t find any cute totes but I did find this purse in the clearance section for $6.88. So I picked it up – I think it’s pretty cute. I’ve been using it ever since. And when I get tired of it, I will feel no regrets at passing it on to someone else!

I pulled out what was in it to show you:
  • A bunch of magazines I brought to read while Ella was at music class this week: Food Network Magazine and Quick Meals.
  • Tons of gum — hmmmm.
  • Lip gloss I bought trying to get away from my obsession with L’oreal lip gloss. (It ended up being kind of gummy and bright purple…}
  • wallet
  • A brush??? How did that get in there?
  • Some beads I grabbed on the last day of our trip and haven’t fished out from the bottom yet.

So there you have it.

I’d like to tag:

  1. Ashley from Delancey Dish {she is fabulous and will have some really great items in her purse – I am sure!}
  2. Julie from Tattered Threads & Willing Hands {she probably MADE her purse – she’s so crafty}
  3. Connie from The Young and the Relentless {Connie probably has a really stylish purse – she loves to shop and has another blog called “Girls That Shop”}
  4. Rhonda from Down Memory Lane {she is a new blogging friend of mine and I can’t wait to see what’s in her purse}
  5. Amber at {aefilkins} {Amber is a really high energy person and she probably has all sorts of cool things in her purse – can’t wait to find out!}
  6. Ashley at Domestic Divas Fancy {Ashley is so young and cute. She probably has the hippest bag around!}
  7. Sarah at frills fluff and trucks {Sarah is another recent blogging friend of mine and is so creative and a great mom – I can’t wait to see what she has in her bag!}
  8. Wenderful {She always has interesting things in her purse. Like maybe… fake glasses?}
  9. Jean from Quincy Cottage {she probably has some wonderful organizational items in there…}
  10. Jamie from Pineapples and Olives {she is a really fun mom and she might have some yummy treats in her purse}
I can’t wait to snoop into your bags!
