Pretty Pergolas

2 Apr

We have a south-facing house, which I love because it makes the main living spaces of my house very light and bright. But it also presents me with a design problem. We have a patio in the back right off of our kitchen. In the summer, it’s often in the 90’s or even over 100-degrees and that patio is in the sun all day long. We often like to eat dinner out on our patio, but it’s tricky because the late afternoon sun is very strong. We have many umbrellas we use, but it would be so nice to have some shade out there.

I have been trying to figure out a solution to this problem for a few years now. I would like a covered porch, but I think that would be a huge expense. I love the look of pergolas.

{Very substantial stone columns}

Which one of these do you like? And, have any of you ever built a pergola? If so, do you have any advice or tips? Or, do you have any other shade ideas for my patio?

Thanks so much!

Have a Terrific Thursday!
