"Summer Social" Guest Project — Free Fourth of July Party Printables!! {tutorial}

23 Jun

Hi TT&J Readers! I’m thrilled to be a guest today as part of Jen’s Summer Social Series, while she lives it up in London. I love Jen, and I hope she’s enjoying herself!

I’m Kami, and I run the blog: NoBiggie.

It’s a lifestyle blog that includes all my favorites: craftscookingthrifting and my family.

I’m a big fan of the 4th of July, and today I thought it would be fun to share with you a free printable that can help make the 4th more festive. Here’s what the free download looks like when you print it out.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
– scissors
– some sort of 4 inch circle cutter (paper craft punch, cutting dies or scissors will work too)
– a paper slicer for straight lines (scissors can work here too, if that is all you have)
– a low temp hot glue gun (this speeds up the process)
– a stapler
– cellophane bags
– red, white and blue candy

Step 1. Gather all your supplies to start
Step Step 2. Use your paper slicer to cut the turquoise strips
Step Step 3. Use your circle cutter to cut the 4 inch circle – I used a big craft punch from Michaels
Step Step 4. Use your scissors to cut out the tiny flag

To make the Paper Medallion:

Step 1. To make one paper medallion – use two turquoise strips
Step 2. Accordian fold the strips: back and forth folds
Step 3. Adhere the two strips together making one long strip and then adhere again forming a circle
Step 4. Add a big spot of hot glue to the center

Next – hot glue all three pieces together.

Here’s the fun part: the candy!

I found all these red, white and blue candies in the bulk food section of my local grocery stores. (Winco and Maceys…if you live in Utah)

Now add a few of each type of candy to each bag. For fun, you can also add something fun for the 4th like a party popper. Once everything is in the bag, fold over the top and staple it closed.

I love that you can really make this printable paper craft your own. As you can see, out of the 4 that I made, they are all different. The one below is my favorite. 🙂

You could also stick one on a giant lollipop OR you could add a toothpick, and make them cupcakes toppers.
Get creative and have fun!

If you make these, I would to see it! You can upload it to the NoBiggie Facebook page.

Happy 4th!
Thanks Kami — those are so fun for the Fourth!!!

Thanks for being my Summer Social guest!

Kami is one of my very favorite people in blogland and in real life.

I love her ideas!!

{Check out the cute Train Party she threw for her little guy this Summer}

{I love this Make Stuff art that she made for her craft room}

{And Kami turned her living room into her craft room – I love that!!}

I could go on and on, but let me just leave it at this — she is wonderful!!!
Be sure to check out No Biggie and say hi!!!

PS — We went to the museums yesterday  – they were amazing! And I brought some crafting things with me to make a little journal of our trip. I have been working on it every night. I just can’t stop crafting – lol

Have a great day!!

“Red Hots and Blue” Fourth of July Rocket Wreath {tutorial}

14 Jun
red hot and blue wreath fourth of july wreath
Fourth of July is coming up fast.
I wanted to make a festive wreath for my front door.
red hots and blue rocket wreath
So I headed down to the Dollar Store and picked up a few supplies.
I used ribbon and paper I already had as well as Dimension Magic (to keep the birds from eating it) and the total for my wreath was about $4!!

“Red Hots and Blue” Rocket Wreath Tutorial

Here’s what I did:
Supplies:

  • Wreath Form
  • Ribbon to wrap around form
  • Hot glue and glue gun
  • Three packages of Red Hot candy
  • Two coordinating scrapbook papers {I used Lifestyle Crafts Sweet and Spicy Paper}
  • Toilet paper roll
  • Two coordinating ribbons to hang the wreath and for the bottom of the rocket.
  • Dimensional Magic, spray polyurethane or resin to seal the candies

Directions:
wrap with ribbon
1. I wrapped the wide ribbon around the wreath form and secured it with hot glue.
glue on the red hots
glue the rows on
2. Then I hot glued the Red Hot candies on the wreath. I started on the front of the wreath, then continued on the outside edges and finally glued them onto the inside of the wreath form.
brush on Dimensional Magic
3. To seal the candies, brush some Dimensional Magic over the top, or spray with polyurethane. If you brush Dimensional Magic over the top, only brush once because some of the sugar from the candies might come off once it gets wet. {I squeezed the Dimensional Magic into a bowl and brushed it on with a foam craft brush}.
make the rocket
4. While the wreath dries, make the rocket! There is a great tutorial for the rocket on Alpha Mom. Just follow the directions. And
to make the rocket take off, loop ribbon into three loops and hot glue
two of these on both sides at the bottom of the rocket.
Then take the
other coordinating ribbon and make three loops and hot glue it into the
middle of the rocket. I made the middle ribbon loops just a bit longer than the side loops.
toilet paper rocket
5. The last thing I did was take two coordinating ribbons and make a big loop through the middle of the wreath and hot glue them shut. Hide the seam at the back of the wreath.

And you are done!!
Now you have a festive wreath to celebrate this patriotic holiday for less than $5!!! red hot and blue fourth of july wreath straight on

Have a Wonderful Day!!!

Guest Project: Rustic Garden Fourth of July Flag Tutorial

25 Jun

Hello Tatertots and Jello Readers! I am so excited (and a little bit nervous) to be here today posting on Jen’s blog! She is fantastic and I am thrilled to be here!

My name is Amanda and I am the creative mind behind “Every Crafty Endeavor.” I am married to a dashingly handsome, hard-working man named Spencer and we have a little boy named Quinn and are expecting our first little girl in November. I work part time as a writer on a marketing team for an Engineering Company and craft in my “spare time.” I have been a “mommy blogger” for a couple years – and started Every Crafty Endeavor to showcase some crafty ideas that I have made.
Sometimes I come up with ideas on my own and sometimes I see ideas that I love and copy – always giving credit of course! That is what I love about blogging – everyone shares ideas and our homes and babies and lives are much cuter! I love to craft and cook and I have lots of fun ideas and tutorials that I love to share. I am constantly thinking about things to cook, make or sew, accessories that pop, ways to decorate my home and things to photograph.
Since the Fourth of July is right around the corner I thought it would be fun to do a tutorial on a Rustic Fourth of July flag that I made for my garden.
First: I went to Home Depot and loaded up my car with 4 lengths of Cedar fencing. I cut them to be 3 feet long, so I ended up with 5 lengths and then I cut two more pieces just long enough to stretch across the backside so I could nail them together.
Second: I painted all of the boards white.
Third: I used the Cricut and cut out a few primitive stars with some extra vinyl and secured them to where I wanted them on my flag. Then I painted over them with blue. You can see in the picture that I cut them in half so I could pull the boards apart.
Fourth: I painted on my stripes. I wanted this to look really rustic so I sponged my red paint on however I felt like it. I tried to get them a little bit straight but I didn’t want straight lines.
Fifth: After it was all dry, I pulled the vinyl stars off and flipped it over. I nailed the shorter boards to the back so the whole thing was one big flag.
Sixth: I took it out to my front yard garden, set it up and am now enjoying it.
You can see that the stars are a tiny bit off and the ends aren’t lined up just right –
I wanted it that way! I want it to look a little weathered and now I can’t wait for my flowers to bloom a little bit more around it. Here in Utah we have two Red, White and Blue holidays so I get to have my flag up all month long!
Please come by sometime and say hello! I love to make new friends!

Thanks for coming over today Amanda! Such a fun project. Here’s button for sharing your tutorial with us!
Be sure to check out Amanda’s blog for other great projects like:

And, I am sharing a little 20-minute Project to spice up a plain t-shirt over at Every Crafty Endeavor if you want to check it out!

XOXO
