Guest Project — 10-minute Easter/Spring Wreath!!

17 Mar
First off—thanks so much Jen for the opportunity to share with your readers! What an honor!!
Cleverly Inspired
I’m Tracie from Cleverly Inspired
I was on the hunt for a fabulous, large, springy wreath.
I wanted it to last past Easter—so I chose to make it simple and classic…and springy!
Super easy—and I made it in 10 minutes!
Think spring!
Start with 2 grapevine wreath forms (one is 24inches, one is 14inches…)
Set the small one inside the large one—makes it look nice and full! Take some floral wire and wire the wreaths together in 3 spots.
I found this paper butterfly in the gift wrap section of Hobby Lobby—thinking outside the box right!?! And these soft florals are so springy!
I attached 3 large hydrangea blooms around the butterfly–attach with floral wire. Twisting it tightly around the back of the wreath.
That’s it! Perfect to keep up all spring!
I love it!

Guest Project — {Bow and Arrow} Valentine Wreath Tutorial

Today, I’m excited to share with you my “Bow and Arrow” Valentine Wreath tutorial. YOU are the crafty ones I admire every weekend at the Tatertots & Jello Weekend Wrap Up Party and I can’t wait to see what you will do with the little bit of inspiration that I hope this tutorial provides πŸ™‚

1. Start by wrapping a 12″ straw heart wreath in yarn. I’m not going to lie, this part takes awhile. Turn on the TV, watch a movie, call a friend! It’s easy, mindless crafting, so do something fun at the same time πŸ™‚ Also, save yourself a step and don’t bother taking off the plastic wrapping around the wreath.

2. Make “Cupid’s Arrow”. Standard 12″ dowel rods available at your local craft store are just a tad short for this project. You will need one full 12″ dowel rod and a small piece of another.
tip on cutting dowel rods
The dowel rods are easy to push through the straw wreath frame. Push the full 12″ one through first. This should cover the bottom left portion of the arrow, through the middle. Cut a small piece of a second dowel to complete the upper right portion of your arrow. Embellish with felt to complete the look you want!
DSCN7631
I used hearts for the point of my arrow and a semi circle for the bottom fin.
3. Create a custom banner.I had this “love” vinyl decal laying around, so I applied it directly to a long strip of cream felt. But don’t let me stifle your creative ideas! Individualize your banner with something special for you and your Valentine!
DSCN7629
These vinyl decals are not intended for fabric application, but hey – it worked for me! Give it a try!
DSCN7626
4. Finishing touches. I snipped the ends of my banner to make prettier tails and then attached it to the wreath with straight sewing pins. Use a hot glue gun to attach stiffened felt to the back of your banner before pinning it on.

Applying stiffened felt, only to the middle of the banner.

Add more of the stiffened felt to give the tails of your banner some structure.

I hope you’re feeling inspired to make one for your front door πŸ™‚
Have a great weekend and Happy Valentines Day!
P.S. Jen, Thank you so much for allowing me to guest post on your amazing site! Your positive and do-it-yourself attitude inspire me! I feel encouraged everyday when I stop by Tatertots and Jello to see what’s new! Thank you and keep up the great work!!!

My Mantels love a good Party! {Valentine’s Day β™₯ Mantel Decorating}

24 Jan
My Mantles love a good party. They look forward to Beth’s Valentine Mantel Party all year. It’s a great time for mantels to get together and socialize – lol. Seriously though, Beth’s Mantel parties are really fun.
Last year I went all romantic and flowery and loved it!!
This year I wanted to do something a little different — so I went a little more whimsical.
I have always wanted to make a Boa Wreath, and what better holiday to make one for than Valentine’s Day? It’s just about the only time of the year that pink boas look good – lol!

I found this little sign at Hobby Lobby {1/3 off – $3} and I made a little LOVE vinyl with my Silhouette to dress it up a little. I also made some organza flowers with little sparkly rhinestones in the center and hot glued those on.
I finished it up with some whimsical polka dot ribbon.
I can’t resist polka dots!!
Going along with my PINK theme, I found some pink plates at Tai Pan and cut out some vinyl with my Silhouette for those.  I love the silhouette of the boy and girl kissing. I put a bow and pink rhinestone in the girl’s ponytail to give it a little 3-D action.
And the ampersand is so graphic in the other plate. Then I took some left over ribbon and wrapped it around the top of my candle holders. I found those at Target about 7 years ago on clearance. Gotta love the clearance section!!
I also made some paper hearts and put them in my cloche on the coffee table.
I still love my Coffee Filter Pom Poms. So pretty and romantic!
And here’s my family room mantel all dressed up.
Be sure to check out the beautiful mantels over at The Stories of A2Z !!!

A little Project to do this weekend — Make a Burlap Scrabble Wreath!

19 Nov
Can you believe that next week is THANKGIVING???
Gah – where did the time go?? There is so much to DO! If you have an hour to spare, here’s a little wreath that will add a little Thanksgiving cheer to your front door:

 {Click on the Read More button for the full tutorial}

Here’s what you need:

  • A wreath form
  • Burlap — a 36″ square piece should do
  • A few fabric scraps
  • Some Scrabble tiles**
  • Hot glue and gun
  • Two types of coordinating ribbon

**Here’s a fun tip — if you want to make one of these and don’t want to destroy your Scrabble game, you can buy “lots” of Scrabble pieces on ebay or etsy. Or, if you contact Hasbro, you can order a complete replacement set of tiles. It was around $6 for 100 pieces last year.

Here’s what you do:

  • Cut two pieces of burlap about 4 inches in width by 36 inches in length. Or, if you have a long piece of burlap you can use a 72 inch strip. Hot glue one end of the strip to the back of the wreath. Then wrap the burlap around your wreath. My wreath form was 12 inches wide, so if you are using a bigger form, you will need a longer piece of burlap.

  • Once the form is wrapped in burlap, set it aside. Now you will make some rolled flowers. I made  18 flowers in different sizes. For each flower, you will need a strip of material about 1 inch in width by either 32 inches, 24 inches or 18 inches, depending on how wide you want the flower to be. Fold the material in half width-wise and then roll it tightly about 8 times. Then add a dab of hot glue and twist the material around the rolled center, adding glue as you roll. The flower will continue to get bigger until you reach the end of the material. Then add some hot glue to the back and glue down the end of the material underneath the flower. For more in-depth instruction, check out my Rolled Flower Tutorial.
  • Now that you have the flowers made, lay out the scrabble pieces to whatever saying you want to display on your wreath. Then hot glue the tiles onto a piece of paper. Then cut out the tiles, trimming very close to the edges so no paper is showing.

  • Hot glue the Scrabble tiles to the wreath.
  • Now lay out the rolled flowers on the wreath. Once you are happy with the placement. Hot glue the flowers to the burlap wreath.

  • Cut the two coordinating ribbon for the top of the wreath. Make a loop of ribbon for the top of the wreath to hang on the door or wall. Then cut another length of the two ribbon and make a bow. Attach the bow at the top of the wreath to the loop.
  • Hang up and enjoy your new wreath!

**Here’s another fun idea — use Scrabble Holders and letters to spell out your family’s names at the table!
