It’s the first day of the Holly Bloggy Christmas Bash from
Simply Sweet Home. I am excited to host — we are sharing
homemade gift ideas. There is something special about a gift that is homemade.
You probably know that I love working with burlap. So I thought it would be fun to make some embellished burlap bags to give homemade treats to my family and friends. I made some different sizes and styles, to fit different treats.
I made a small, skinny one for baguettes with homemade pesto
or homemade jam — the jam or pesto fits at the bottom of the bag.
These brownies fit right inside a square burlap bags
with a trees sewn on the front.
And a little burlap purse holds fresh tangerines and a candy cane. It can be hung on a neighbor’s doorknob.
Another homemade treat that is great for neighbors or teachers are dry mixes in glass containers.
I made some spiced hot chocolate. I love the way the layers look together. I put some miniature candy canes in for color.
Here is the recipe: {My jars are quart size which is 16 ounces}
One layer of 2/3 cup confectioner sugar
One layer of 2/3 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder
One layer of 2/3 teaspoon vanilla powder {found at baking supply stores}
One layer of 1/3 teaspoon cardamom
One layer of mini candy canes
Directions to put with the jars: Sift the cocoa mix into a large mixing bowl. For each serving, stir 1/4 cup mix into 1 cup hot milk.
One layer of 2/3 cup confectioner sugar
And I made these labels that can go on top. They are perfect for a 2 5/16 scallop punch. I have the free printable
HERE if you would like to customize and use them.
I also made a little ornament with the family initial that I put on the top of the package. I made it out of sheet metal and glittered up the edges for a little sparkle.
