On a cold winter day there is nothing as scrumptious and warming as a delicious cup of Starbuck’s hot chocolate. I love to get the non-fat milk with a shot of peppermint and whipped cream. Yum! It just takes the edge off of a cold, cold day.
Last year we discovered a nifty invention called the Mr. Coffee Cocomotion. We gave it out to everyone in our families for Christmas. It makes a great batch of hot chocolate. You put in the chocolate powder and water or milk and then it heats it up to the right temperature while simultaneously whipping it so there is a nice froth on top. It also has a handy spout for pouring. When the cocoa is ready the motor stops, and it will start up again whenever it needed to keep the hot chocolate at the right temperature.
Because Starbucks is so expensive and is a rare treat, I found a recipe that I use at home that duplicates the Starbucks experience:
(makes 8 servings: perfect for the Cocomotion)
2 cups water
8 Tablespoons cocoa
8 Tablespoons sugar
6 cups milk (I use non-fat)
4 teaspoons vanilla extract
chocolate shavings (optional)
Peppermint flavoring (optional)
- 1. Measure water, cocoa and sugar into cocomotion or glass measuring cup. Stir well.
- If not using cocomotion — microwave on high for 1-2 minutes to make a chocolate syrup. If using cocomotion just add all ingredients together and turn on.
- Stir in milk and vanilla and peppermint syrup (optional). (If not using machine, microwave until warm)If you don’t have peppermint syrup you can add a few peppermint candies to the pot.
- Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
