Guest Project — How to Make Custom Water Bottle Labels {with free printables!}

12 May

Hi there!  Kerry from Sweet Sanity here!

First of, I must say how
thrilled I am to be doing a tutorial on Tatertots and Jello…I love
Jen’s blog and checking in over morning coffee always gets me inspired!

Sweet Sanity offers stickers, tags and printables for your parties,
weddings, and showers.
I have always loved celebrations with an
unmistakable theme, and helping others bring their ideas to life…My
shop is for those who like to have a hand in the details!   I love ideas
that are unique and SWEET…but they’ve got to be SANE, too…easy,
quick, and affordable. That makes them even sweeter!

Today’s Tutorial:  Water Bottle Labels

At first I must admit I thought custom water bottle labels
seemed like an awful lot of work, but after seeing them all lined up
like little organized party soldiers I’m in! If you are setting up a
spread it is a great way to inject more color onto the table, and get
your theme across. Most of the labels I’ve been designing lately on Etsy
are for brides making hotel welcome bags. But even on a smaller scale
they look adorable at a baby shower, bridal shower, graduation party, or
even for your house guests (yes, I am going there!)

Here are my tips for doing it at home and keeping it sane…

First
off, the paper.

You can buy waterproof vinyl label paper, and set your
printer to the correct setting to get it through.  They are also self adhesive
so this may be good (no taping necessary) and bad (a lot of sticky
label to deal with that may wrinkle) If you are going to be cooling the
bottles in bins of ice and water this is the route you’d need to go.
BUT here’s my vote for regular paper.  If lined up on a table, in gift
bags, or even in the fridge, there’s actually no risk of them getting
wet, so regular paper works just fine. One less thing you need to
special order!

The design…you can make them yourself on the computer, even in
Word, and generally speaking 8″ x 2.5″ would fit most bottles. Here is
thing I wouldn’t lose sleep over.  If the bottle ridges are wider than
the label (like the one below) it still looks fine, and I’ve seen this
size even used on shorty stubby bottles and they look darling!  If you
really work at it you can probably fit 4 on a page.

The prep... Start by cutting the strips of labels out and then prep the bottles but cutting off the plastic.

Finally the application.  You’ve got regular scotch tape, double
stick tape or a glue stick.  If you really care about the tape showing,
then go for the double stick. It’s my first choice because it’s so
simple, and in my opinion beats dealing with a sticky glue stick that
sometimes doesn’t hold as tightly.

Then we are ready to line them up! I
love them. I want to squeeze them!  The recent photoshoot leftovers
made it into my fridge and I must say it makes me smile when just
grabbing for a bottled water!

So now it’s your turn!

The Candy Party: Part 2 — Embellished Lanterns, Dimensional Magic Necklaces and Goodie Bags

10 May
To decorate the front of the house and each side of the Candy Buffet,
we made these Giant Lollipops.
I saw the idea on Tip Junkie
They are super easy to create and make such a statement!!
Another decoration we created was Embellished Lanterns. I bought some plain lanterns at Pier 1 a couple weeks ago with the idea of embellishing them for my backyard for evening BBQ’s. Then I realized they would be so fun to hang from my ceiling as a birthday decoration too!
This is also a fast decorating idea.

All I did was get different kinds of ribbon, lace and fabric flowers. Then I hot glued them on the lanterns. I added some sparkly jewels to the flowers too.
I also made a couple of Pennant Lanterns for fun.
I had seen a fabulous pennant lantern on Pinterest and wanted to see if I could do something similar. I used some Washi Tape on the large lantern to attach the fabric pennants.
And on the smaller lantern, I used ribbon and made the pennants out of the Washi Tape. All I did was cut out little triangles with the tape and then hot glued the ribbon on and then stuck the tape pennants right under the ribbon. Kind of fun!
Hannah is a very creative girl and she wanted to make something with her friends as a party activity.
We decided to make some Personalized Necklaces.
I found some metal round jewelry disks on clearance at my craft store for 90% off. I bought those and some brightly colored beads.
Then the girls cut out some scrapbook paper to fit in the metal round disks and I mod podged those onto the disks, covering the front of the paper too. While we let those dry, the girls strung up their beads and gorged on candy from the Candy Buffet.
After the mod podge had dried, they picked out their initial from some scrapbook letters, we attached them to the disks and then filled in the surface with Plaid’s Dimensional Magic. This is a great product to use instead of epoxy or resin which can take a long time to dry and is tricky to mix. Plus, the Dimesional Magic dries much quicker.
We let those dry. And Embellished some little mini lunch boxes that I also found on clearance. I matched the beads to the colors in the lunch boxes so each girl’s beads would match their lunch box. When the party was over we let the girls take the candy home from the Candy Buffet in their lunch boxes.
It was so fun to see her huge smile!!

Guest Project — "Rock of Love" Valentine Play Party!!

1 Feb
118
Hello~ We are Amy and Bri, of The Savvy Moms Guide
{Two average moms who enjoy making the EveryDay SAVVY}

We have found that Spray Paint, Scrapbook Paper and Fabric can give anything a face lift. The Dollar Bin at Target is better than a Sale Rack at Nordstrom’s (well maybe not, but that is what we tell our husbands). Pictures of family are Priceless compared to Framed Art (and cheaper). And nothing is better than Starbucks……but you can live without it, as long as you have a good Coffee Creamer.

We Love Play Dates and Parties, Decor and Design, and creating Perfection for Pennies.
But Play Dates are kind of our ‘thing’.

Webster defines a play date as~an arranged appointment for children to get together for a few hours to play. While this is true, we wanted more.

And so began our Savvy Play Parties…the Ultimate play date!!!
A Savvy Moms play party is one that is creative, interactive, educational, fun, healthy and delicious, all at the same time. And every month we host one! We always want our followers to feel like they can create the parties we share. Our Play Parties are filled with Penny Projects, EveryDay Finds and DIY creations.

With that we present to you our
“Rock of Love” Play Party.
A day filled with Savvy Stylings that we hope ‘Makes your heart Sing’.

For this Play Party we wanted to take the traditional Valentine’s colors and theme and incorporate a bit of edgy rock. We were able to use records that we had from home and accent with leopard scrapbook paper to create that Rock of Love look we were going for.
011

We have been seeing glass bottles used in many photo shoots, parties and dessert tables lately. We love the look. So we had no problem buying a case of Starbucks Frappucinos and using the re-purposed bottles for the kids Strawberry milk. We added some leopard scrapbook paper from Jo-Anns and glitter heart stickers from the Target Dollar bins to create a sweet treat for the kids to enjoy. And the best part is we will use these bottles again and again!

We like to always include some sort of healthy snack for the kids that is fun and compliments the theme. So we cut up fruit and used a heart shape cookie cutter and placed them in fun plastic cups we found at the Dollar Tree and accented with leopard ribbon.
012
Another Signature ‘Savvy Moms’ idea are Place mats.
We think it is a great way for the kids to get excited about what they are doing if they have something in front of them that is personalized and themed. To create these place mats, and usually all of our Play Party place mats, we use 12×12 sheets of scrapbook paper, usually found in the Target Dollar bins or what we may have laying around. We used our Silhouette to cut out each kiddos initials, place onto a doilie and covered with contact paper.
015
We found these Valentine Trees at Jo-Anns and used them as our Rock Candy Tree, hanging Ring Pops off of them.
115
Our cupcake topper printables were created for us by our talented photographer Donella, of Ella B Photography. These were a ‘rockin’ touch to our yummy cupcakes made by our good friend Jamie of Kolby Kakes.
120
Kolby Kakes also made ‘Rock Of Love Records’ or Ding Dongs and fun and funky hot pink microphone cookies that the kids really enjoyed.
118
The cupcake stand was also a DIY idea inspired by Skip to My Lou.
We followed the tutorial on how to make a cupcake stand, replaced the plates with records and added a touch of leopard and glitter heart stickers from the target Dollar bins creating one Savvy cupcake stand.

We also used records and turned them into serving trays for the cookies, clever and creative!

sb1
The kids craft for the day were these adorable wooden guitars and hearts also found at Jo-Anns in the Dollar Bins.
sb3

No Valentine’s Celebration is complete without a Valentine exchange.
When we saw these Adorable Heart Pockets on One Charming Party we knew they were perfect. Savvy and Simple just the way we like it!

sb4

Happy Valentine’s Day……’I pick you’.
224
Each of our Play Parties also includes a coordinating story. So we read ‘The Night Before Valentine’s Day’ while they ate their Valentine treats.
We found a great recipe over at Parenting.com for Cupcake Microphones that fit the theme perfectly!! Some serious faces, but they truly made their ‘Hearts Sing’!

sb2

The kids got to rock out with their Conversation Heart microphones that were also a great DIY idea we shared as a sneak peek earlier in the month.
These microphones can also be turned into Valentine topiaries. Just get yourself a metal bucket (found in Target Dollar bins most of the time) or a planters pot and stick into foam, rocks or sand and use for decor for your home or next party.
074
Rock On Friends……..
And keep Making the EveryDay Savvy!
Smiles~
Amy & Bri
