Simple Woman’s Daybook for August 10, 2009

10 Aug

For Today — August 10, 2009…

  • Outside my window… It is dark. We have had some rainy weather. On Wednesday night a group of women from our neighborhood went up the canyon for a cookout and hike. As we were going up, a huge thunderstorm came in. It stopped after awhile, so we were able to have a nice dinner and s’mores. Hannah came along and loved the hot cocoa.
  • I am thinking… About Susan. Her funeral is today.
  • I am thankful for… My kids. The two oldest were at sleep-away camps last week. When we went to pick up my son we were able to see their dance performances. At the end he took his 4 year old sister and danced the waltz with her. I thought that was so sweet.
  • From the kitchen… tonight I made one of my favorites — Pioneer Woman’s Smashed Potatoes. I used potatoes, rosemary and thyme from the garden. And a little bit of bacon on top. Yum!
  • I am wearing… A sweater and capris. It still hasn’t warmed back up completely. When we were eating outside the weather was perfect.
  • I am creating… I have been making more of my resin pendants. I used some vintage buttons on these. Here is a picture before I poured the resin.
  • I am going… To the funeral and then I am going to work on some PTA things for the new school year.
  • I am reading… I am almost to the end of my British family saga book. Does anyone have any good suggestions?
  • I am hoping… To have a good week this week. My son’s friend Phoebe is here visiting. So we are going to take her around to some hot spots: the planetarium, dinosaur museum, downtown and mini golfing.
  • I am hearing… The sound of a movie coming from the basement where the teenagers have taken over the big television. My little ones are sleeping.
  • Around the house… I am finishing up my garage renovation. It has taken many hours of hard work, but has been worth it. I love going out there now.
  • One of my favorite things: Are my blogging friends. Thank you so much for coming by for my blogoversary. You guys really lift my spirits. I don’t know what I would do without you!
  • A few plans for the rest of the week: Doing my trail and spending time with the kids – we only have 2 weeks of Summer left *sigh*
  • Here is picture thought I am sharing…Mom and I tooling around the neighborhood a few hours ago this bike! It was the first time in 30 years that she had been on a bike. Can you believe that??
Go over to the Simple Woman to join in the fun.
Have a Delightful Day

Simple Woman’s Daybook for July 27, 2009

27 Jul

FOR TODAY, July 27th, 2009 …

  • Outside My Window…It is hot and sunny. I just got back from the pool with my youngest daughter and her little friend. Out neighbor is out of town for a couple of weeks and said that we can use their pool – yay! So nice and refreshing.
  • I am thinking…Of my friend Susan. I was thinking about Susan and her family all weekend – hoping that things were improving. Jeff talked to Elden (her husband) today and things are not good. He is having a hard time (understandably) and feeling overwhelmed with all of the details of things. She is sleeping about 22 hours a day and when she is awake she isn’t very aware of her surroundings. It is all so heartbreaking.
  • I am thankful for…I am so thankful for my belief that there is a life after this life. It is so hard to see someone who is so good go through such a horrific time, at such a young age and with young children. It would be so unbearable to me if I didn’t know that she and her family will be reunited again. That there is a plan.
  • From the kitchen…It has been so hot. I haven’t been very motivated to make much in the kitchen lately. We have been grilling a lot and having salads and fresh fruit. I love my garden. It is so nice to go out and get some fresh lettuce for the salad or some fresh herbs. I am waiting anxiously for my tomatoes to get ripe. I LOVE fresh tomatoes!
  • I am wearing…A t-shirt and a skirt. I have found that skirts are so much cooler in the summer.
  • I am creating…I am still working on my resin projects. I am getting ready to make a fresh batch of necklaces. I am still perfecting the resin timing to get it just right. But it is really fun to experiment!
  • I am going…I am going to go a few places to finish getting the things for my Blogoversary: Favorite Things Giveaway. It is going to be so fun. Here is a sneak peek at something that is going to be in the giveaway:

This is a wonderful product. It’s a face primer and clear makeup. Very cool stuff!

  • I am reading…
  • I am reading Something Dangerous by Penny Vincenzi. It’s a sequel to No Angel. They are family saga historical fiction books set in England from the 1900 through the 1970’s. It covers the first and second world wars shown through the eyes of a hugely entertaining family that runs a publishing empire in Britian.
  • I am hearing…The sounds of my children playing. My 10 year old daughter is off in Idaho visiting her cousins. She is having a fabulous time, but I am missing her so much. This is the longest time that she has ever been away. So the house is a little quieter here without her.

(photo by Wenderful: isn’t she talented???)
  • Around the house…I found the cutest birdcage wall hangings when I was at TJ Maxx last week. They were such a great deal. I couldn’t pass them up. I am trying to decide where to put them. I think they would be cute on the same wall, the larger one slightly higher and than the other. What do you think?

  • One of my favorite things…Is spending time with my kids. It’s so nice in the summer when they are at home to do special things with them that we are too busy to do during the school year. I love summer!
  • A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week…I have been doing my trail each morning. I am still loving it. On Wednesday we are having a little group of women meet and walk the trail together. When we are half way done we are going to stop and have muffins and juice. I think it will be really fun!

Here is picture thought I am sharing… Last night after dinner we went up the canyon to escape the heat and go on a little hike. We came across this dry creekbed. The kids had a great time looking at all of the different rocks and imagining where they came from.

Have a wonderful Monday!

SImple Woman’s Daybook for June 29, 2009

30 Jun

FOR TODAY, June 29th, 2009 …

  • Outside My Window…It’s very late, and I really should be in bed. I just finished working on a project in my craft room and thought I would check on some blogs before I went to bed…
  • I am thinking…About friends. I was able to spend some time with my friend Susan, who is battling breast cancer. She is such a sweet, wonderful, talented person. And today I met my friend Chrissy to giver her a birthday gift. She means the world to me. And when we were in Portland I was able to have dinner with my friend Jill. Jill and I reconnected through Facebook after 15 years of not being in touch.
  • I am thankful for…My kids. I was able to take my two oldest children to BYU for some camps today. My son Nick is going to something called EFY (Especially For Youth) which is a church camp for kids 14-18. And my daughter Hayley is also at BYU at a lacross camp. They are able to stay on campus in dorms and hopefully meet some other kids while they are up there. It was fun to take them to BYU and drive around the campus where Jeff and I met. It has changed alot in some ways, but the dorms are virtually the same as they were.
  • From the kitchen…Jeff barbequed some whole chickens tonight and they were so tasty and moist. It was a very good experiment.
  • I am wearing…I am still in my clothes that I have worn all day. I really need to get in my PJ’s and go to bed!
  • creating…I finished a fun project for Xazmin’s Mod Podge Mania tomorrow. I think it turned out really well. I am really thankful for this blog because it makes me get some of these projects done that I keep putting off!
  • I am going…I am excited to get up in the morning and going walking down in the wilderness area. It is my new thing that I have been doing this summer. It is so beautiful and I love thinking about my day as I see such beautiful scenery. I am going to take my camera with me tomorrow so I can get some shots of the mountains where I walk. They are so green and beautiful right now since we have had so much rain this year.
  • I am reading…I just finished a fascinating book called Mistress of the Sun by Sandra Galland. I love historical fiction, and this one is based on a real person who lived in the time of Louis the Fourteenth – in France.
  • I am hoping…I need to get my house ready for my sister and her family who are coming to spend the 4th of July with us.
  • I am hearing…My fridge is being so loud! I don’t know what is wrong with it, but it is making a buzzing sound. For as expensive as it was, I am not impressed with how loud it has been. The ice maker is very noisy!
  • Around the house…I finally got all of the laundry done from our trip. I think I did about 20 loads.
  • One of my favorite things…I love blogging and I am sorry that I haven’t been better about commenting lately. First with our trip and then trying to get caught up with things after. So if I haven’t been over to see you, I will be soon!
  • A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week..I am going to try to get my house ready for company. Plus my yard. There are a ton of weeds that I need to pull. So maybe I can do that soon. I am going to take my little girls to the pool tomorrow. They are very excited about that! And of course, 4th of July. We have a really fun community parade in our neighborhood every year. It starts off with a big pancake breakfast and then the parade. Anyone can be in it. So my kids love that. They love decorating their bikes and scooters and throwing candy to the people watching. My sister and her family will be with us and then my other sister and her husband a little baby Hudson will be coming out and staying with my mom. It will be fun to have all of the cousins together!

To see more Simple Woman’s Daybook entries, go on over to Grandmother Wren’s . And don’t forget Mod Podge Mania is tomorrow at Xazmin’s – it should be really fun!

Have a wonderful week and a Super 4th!

A Simple Woman’s Daybook: March 2, 2009

2 Mar

FOR TODAY, March 2nd, 2009 …

Outside My Window…
It is a little overcast, but warm! I think it is probably 60 degrees out and it’s only about 9 am. So that is very warm. Hopefully the snowdrift in front of my house will melt off and I will be able to see my lawn again!
I am thinking…
I am thinking about what a wonderful time I had going to my sister’s baby shower! It was so fun to see Ashley and her cute round belly. She is so beautiful and glowing. It was fun to spend time with my mom and of course Wendy too. We had a wonderful time! I love them all so much.

{Ashley and her sweet mother-in-law Nancy}
{Little cowboy boots that were her husband’s when he was a baby!}

The day before….

One of my mom’s friends – Barbara – had us over to her beautiful home and make the most wonderful lunch for us. Homemade soup, chicken salad and cupcakes. It was delicious. Thank you Barbara!

I am thankful for…
I am so thankful for my sweet children. Being away from them is always hard. They are so sweet and wonderful! Do you remember the little, precious baby I blogged about last week? Well Gracie is not doing well. It sounds like that sweet baby is slipping away. My heart just aches for that family.

From the kitchen…
I’ve been gone, so I haven’t had to cook – yay! But I am back now so it’s back to the routine. I think I will make some soup tonight. My kids are probably so sick of soup (I make it all the time – lol).

I am wearing…
I am still in my sweats, with crazy sleeping hair and no makeup. I hope no one comes to the door. I might frighten them to death!

I am going…
I am gearing up for another busy week. My program over at the elementary school is busy this week every month. So I will spend a lot of time over there. Then Hayley has an orthodontist appointment. Hannah has parent-teacher conferences. And my other mom things.

I am reading…
I started reading a really good book set in the year 1699. But I realized that I left it when I was gone on my trip!

I am hoping…
For a miracle for Gracie’s family.

I am hearing…
Ella’s bare feet padding around the house. She is sitting on the couch next to me eating an apple and not letting me out of her site. She is such a sweet little thing.

Around the house…
I am about to get going to clean the house. I need to unpack, clean out my kitchen, vacuum and get things back to normal.

One of my favorite things…
I love this blogging world. I am so happy to have met so many wonderful people. I love coming home and checking on everyone. It feels like another sort of family. Thank you for being there for me.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

{Me, Ashley and Wendy – isn’t Ashley the most glamorous pregnant girl?}

And that’s my Simple Woman’s Day Book for today. Go on over to the Simple Woman to check out the other day book entries!

Have a Marvelous Monday!
Thanks for stopping by!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook for February 16, 2009

17 Feb

FOR TODAY, February 16th, 2009 …

Outside My Window…
Today was overcast. It snowed this morning for a bout 2 hours and then cleared up. The sun came out in the afternoon – yay! They say a big storm is coming in tonight and that it will snow all day tomorrow.

I am thinking… About what a wonderful crazy week I had last week. It started out with meeting my wonderful friend Marie.

Then we had our Gently Used Boutique at church.

We ended up getting tons of great donations. I have a great committee and they put in so much work! We also had a super turn out. One of the ladies on my committee knows some people who run a food storage company and she brought all kinds of tasty soups, cornbread and cookies for everyone to sample. After we were done, we packed up the rest of the donations and they went to a neighborhood that could really use them. There were also some people who had some African refugee families in their wards who came to get things for those families.

I am thankful for…
My sweet son Nick. He turns 15 tomorrow – I can’t believe it!
It seems like yesterday that he was born and I was looking into his sweet little face in the hospital. I was surprised at how much I loved him from the moment I saw him. He is such a sweet, caring, smart, wonderful person. I don’t even have the words to say how much he means to me! Happy Birthday sweet Nick!!!

I am wearing…
The usual uniform of black sweater, jeans and boots. We worked at the temple open house this morning. I worked running cookies up and down to the stage to the tables. I figured that we went through 6,000 cookies during my shift! It was quite busy since it was a holiday today. working there was really wonderful, but lots of running around. My mistake was wearing high heeled boots. After 4 hours, my feet were KILLING me. I came home and put on my comfy boots and jeans so we could run up to m y nephew Tristin’s birthday party this afternoon.

Happy Birthday Tristin!
(We have 4 birthdays this week in our family)

I am creating…
I got a little crafty this weekend and made a few bracelets.

I am reading…
The last Shopaholic book. We went to see the movie this weekend. It was really cute!

I am hoping…
To get some projects done this week. I cleaned out my pantry last week.

I got into a cleaning frenzy on Tuesday night, when I should have been focusing on the boutique. I think when I get under stress that I distract myself with other projects. It looks much better now though!

I am hearing…
Quiet! Everyone is asleep – but me!

Around the house…
The house is a mess, but I will deal with that t omorrow…

One of my favorite things…
My favorite time of the night is when I am going to sleep. Jeff turns on my electric blanket. After I am through getting ready for bed, I climb into my warm, toasty bed, pull the covers up and read…

Another of my favorite things are my blogging friends. One of my first commenters, Duckie – from A Duck In Her Pond, gave me this award:

After a three day weekend, and being gone most of the day at the open house, I need to clean things up around here. Tomorrow is Nick’s birthday and then Hayley’s is on Saturday. I am also having the church ladies over on Saturday for the quarterly “Birthday Brunch”. So I need to get things cleaned up before they all come over.

The Simple Woman’s Daybook….

10 Feb

{I know I posted today, but I have really enjoyed taking part in the Simple Woman’s Daybook. It lets me journal and sort out my thoughts for the week. So I can look back on my life at this point and remember what it was really like.}

The Simple Woman’s Daybook for February 9th, 2009

For today, February 9th, 2009 …

Outside My Window… It started raining this morning and the rain turned to snow as the morning turned to afternoon. The mountains look so beautiful as the clouds hover at the top.

I am thinking… I am gearing up for the big Gently Used Boutique (everything is free) which is on Wednesday night. On Saturday we collected items from the area. Tomorrow we are going to go through the donations and sort them into sizes and categories. I hope it will be really helpful to people. We are trying to follow the guidelines of Reuse, Recycle and Renew. There are so many people who might need items for their families, so it makes sense to swap things as a community. I will let you know how it goes and share the pictures.

I am thankful for… My family. We went over to my mom’s yesterday and made Valentine cards and had a wonderful dinner. My kids seem to be doing better this week. Hannah only cried a little before school started today. Hayley and I are communicating better and Nick also seems happier. Ella has started a music class with a little friend. She went to her class this morning. It was so wonderful to see her singing and trying out the different instruments. She really enjoys it. Tomorrow she has preschool and she seems to really enjoy her school too. I am so thankful that my children are healthy and happy.

Also, thanks to Wenderful for a fantastic Christmas present of a blog redesign. Mikaela of Fresh Designs did a wonderful job. If you want a new look for your blog, go check her out. Thanks Kaela!

From the kitchen… Jeff is out of town this week, so not too much excitement is happening in the kitchen. I did make some cookies last week – chocolate chip pumpkin. I think I will make some fajita tacos tomorrow night – we love Mexican food!

I am wearing… Jeans, boots and a sweatshirt. But I am soon going to get into my PJ’s and get ready for bed. My two oldest kids have had to be at school for band/choir practices early each morning for the past two weeks and it is wiping me out!!!

I am creating… I finished the storage project for Ella’s room – finally. I am kind of hesitating to share it with you because I’ve been talking about it for so long. I don’t know why it took me so long to get it done. I think it will be a good organizing place for Ella’s toys. I will post about it on Friday. I am also going to start my giveaway on Friday for the little hanging embellished plaque. Thanks for your kind comments!

I am going… to work on the boutique tomorrow and Wednesday. And do my regular things like drive the preschool carpool, take the kids to the orthodontist, work over at the school, post office, grocery store. I am excited to go to my sister’s baby shower at the end of the month. She is having a little boy. It will be so fun to spend time with her.

I am reading… I am reading a really good book about a wedding dress maker in Paris right now. So far I really like it!

I am hoping… I am hoping the boutique goes well this week. I am also hoping to see my oldest friend Chrissy maybe this week or next. She is very busy wit h her job and cute family.

I am hearing… Not much. The kids are in bed. I was listening to Nick and Hayley laughing together in the basement and that made my heart happy. It is so nice to hear them talking and having a good time together. Jeff called from California and he is going to dinner with my sister and her husband tomorrow night. So that will be fun!

Around the house… I spent the day cleaning out my closets for the Gently Used Boutique. I think I have 6 bags of clothes, coats and household items to donate. It feels good to go through things and declutter. I hope they will go to people who need them and make someone elses life a little better.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

Ella came home from school on Thursday and fell asleep. Trixie came and laid by her the entire time. They are good little friends!

Thanks for stopping by!
I am really enjoying getting to know you!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook for February 2, 2009

2 Feb

For today, February 2nd, 2009 …
Outside My Window…
The sun is shining, the sky is blue. The snow on the mountains looks so pretty. It is still cold out, but I don’t mind when the sun is shining — it feels warmer.

I am thinking…

I am thinking motherhood is so very hard. It is a joy with Ella. She loves doing anything as long as she is with me. Hannah cried all morning before school. She hates school and just wants to stay home with me. I don’t know what to do to help her. She is a good student so I don’t think it’s too hard. She has friends and I don’t think she is having social problems. Her teacher is strict, but she says she likes her teacher. I need to figure out what to do about her. She stayed home 3 days last week because she was “sick” and we have already had a letter from the principal before Christmas saying she had missed too much school. What do you do with a child who hates school?

Hayley can’t wait to get to school to be away from me. Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with a 12-year-old girl? Jeff is out of town and he does so much better with her than I do. Nick is shy and is having problems talking to people at school. But he doesn’t want to talk about it…

I am thankful for…

Everything in my life. I was able to talk to both of my sisters this week. My youngest sister is pregnant with her first baby. She is having a boy and is going to name him Hudson – isn’t that cute? My other sister, Wenderful, is having a GIVEAWAY today. So go over and sign up for it!!!

From the kitchen…

I have some hamburger I bought the other day that I need to use tonight. I might make either some soup or maybe meatloaf.

I am wearing…

Jeans, a sweater and boots. (what else!) The sweater I have on is very warm. It feels great as I sit in my family room typing this as the sun is shining in the windows on me.

I am creating…
I am in the middle of many projects right now! There is never enough time. But that is the way I like it. I am making a really great storage solution to go in Ella’s room. I hope to share that with you on Friday. I also am working on the projects that I promised the winners of my Pay It Forward giveaway. I think it is going to be really cute! I am also working on some jewelry projects. I think this what keeps me sane!
I am going…
I am soooo excited… My friend Marie at Oak Cottage is coming to America! I am going to pick her up from the airport on Friday night! I can’t believe it! Marie is the first person to comment on my blog. She is the greatest cook and the wisest and sweetest woman! (the picture above is one that Marie painted – she is an amazing artist)I am reading…
I got sucked into reading all of the Shopoholic books while I was on my trip. I know they are fluff. I know they are silly. But I LOVE THEM. And I can’t wait until the movie comes out. Only 11 more days. I will be the first one in line!!!
I am hoping…
I am hoping to get everything done this week. I had a church meeting this morning about a big dinner that we are planning for March. Tomorrow I have another church meeting about a big event that we are planning for next week. I think I’ve already mentioned it, but I think it is a great idea for anyone in this economy. It is called a “Gently Used Boutique”. We are collecting nice, gently used items people and then next week we are transforming a room into a cute boutique where anyone in the community can come and “shop” for FREE. There was an article in Rachel Ray a few months ago that was kind of the same idea, and they displayed everything so well. I am hoping to make it really cute like a real shop. We are also having tastings of food storage items like soups, cornbread and cookies and information on how to go about collecting food storage. I am hoping that it really helps people who need things for their homes.

I am hearing…

All of my kids just got home from school. They are all happy and telling each other about their day. I love it when they are all here – it feels complete.

Around the house…
The house is clean and it feels so nice!

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

We are not big sports lovers around here, but we watched it (kindof).
This is us, watching the Super Bowl. Three of us are on the computer, another is on a computer upstairs and one is on the couch reading a book. We did get some yummy treats for half-time. We had cheese ball, crackers, tortilla chips, guacamole, hummus and carrots and dip. That was my favorite part!

What did you do last night on Superbowl Sunday?
Have a Super Day

A Simple Woman’s Daybook: January 26th, 2009

26 Jan

For today, January 26th, 2009

Outside my window: I can hear the sounds of workers unloading some things and people laughing as they go to their cars. The sun is out, the birds are chirping. The sun is coming through the window into our hotel room and it is a beautiful day here.

I am thinking: I am thinking what a wonderful trip we have had. It has been so nice to get away together and reconnect. It’s hard to find time for just each other in the daily grind of life. With four kids, Jeff’s busy travel schedule and all the craziness. We have had so much fun just being together!

I am thankful for: I am so thankful for our families which have helped out with the kids so we could get away for this trip. It is so wonderful to have our families close and it is such a blessing to have them in our lives.

From the kitchen: Nothing! We have been eating the most delicious seafood. A couple of nights ago we went to dinner with some of our friends who just happened to be here at the same time. What a coincidence!

We had the most delicious meal:

And for desert – chocolate molten lava cake:

And speaking of food, we stopped in at the local McDonald’s to get a drink. They have some funny local dishes they serve:

SPAM platter!Special Tropical Drinks

I am wearing: I am wearing my workout clothes from going walking with Jeff.

I am going: We are going to change into our suits and go snorkeling. It’s our last day here so we are cramming everything in that we can. After we go snorkeling we are going to come backj to the hotel room and put our traveling clothes on and then go over and visit the hotel where we stayed on our honeymoon. And the look for some souvenirs. Then off to the airport **sigh**.

I am reading: Oh my goodness, I have read SOOO many books while laying by the pool. That’s my favorite thing to do. I am starting a new set of books called “The Glass Books of The Dream Eaters” by Gordon Dalquist. I think it’s a kind of mystery series set in the 1800’s.I’ll let you know if they are any good!

I am hoping: I am excited to see my kids. I have missed them. I am hoping the airplane ride is not too turbulent. We sat right by the wing on the flight over and it was scary with the turbulence and I could see the wing bouncing around…

One of my favorite things: Last night we got dressed up and had a wonderful dinner. After dinner, we went out on the beach. We took off our shoes, Jeff rolled up his pantlegs and we walked in the waves in the dark. The stars were shining down on us and we could hear the waves lapping on the shore. The sunsets here are so beautiful. Here is one I want to share with you:

Thank you for all of your kind comments and sweet support! My Island Giveaway ends tonight. If you haven’t signed up, leave a comment on the post below!!!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook….

19 Jan

For today, January 19th, 2008…

Outside My Window… It is dark. I am writing this past midnight on Sunday night, so it is technically Monday morning. Today the sun was out and it didn’t seem too cold. The inversion is hanging around so things are a little misty. Up by our house you don’t notice the inversion because of our altitude, but as you drive down the hill toward town, you can see the brown, murky mist hanging over everything.
I am thinking… I am thinking about friends. Yesterday Jeff and I were able to visit some of our oldest friends. We have known them since college and spent a lot of time together when we were all just newlyweds. Elden has a really popular blog called FatCyclist which, as you can probably guess, is about biking. Susan, his wife, is so courageous and is battling breast cancer. So we went to see them and I helped Susan make some bike bracelets for Elden to give away on his blog to rasie money for cancer. It was so fun to spend time with her making the bracelets while the guys played RockBand. Susan is the sweetest, most creative person. It was so wonderful to spend time with her.{This is a bracelet Susan made to be auctioned off to raise funds to fight cancer. If you are interested in donating to fight cancer and a chance to win one of these bracelets, go over to FatCyclist}

I am thankful forFriends. It was so wonderful spending time with Susan, who I have known for so long. A few minutes ago, I was checking my facebook page and a message popped up from a friend of mine, Julie, who was a neighbor of mine when my oldest kids were toddlers. It is so fun to keep in touch with people and see their families grow up. My roommate from college, Chrissy, started a blog this past month and it is so fun to get updates on what she and her family are doing. I still have my Christmas cards up on my wall so I can look at the family pictures of people near and far. I know I should take those down…

And speaking of friends… I love my blogging friends that I have met. I recently found the most adorable blog All That Is Good, Kasey is the sweetest girl with cutest kids. She surprised me this week by giving me the cutest award! Thanks Kasey! For this award, I am have to list 5 things I am addicted to, and 5 blogs I am addicted to. SO here goes:

1. If you’ve ever met me you would know, I am addicted to high heels. Why? I don’t know. I am tall, but I want to be taller. I buy flats, but just can’t get myself to wear them.2. Diet Coke. I am trying to cut back on this one. But, sometimes you just need one!

4. Books. I love to read. It’s my favorite thing to do.

5. Web Boggle. Have you ever played it? If you haven’t, you should. This is the reason I will not be getting alzheimers as an old person. But, I have to say, blogging is seriously cutting into my web boggle time! And now on to my addictive blogs. There are so many blogs that I love to visit. Here are a few:

1. Marie. She is one of my first blogging friends. She is a wonderful writer, cook and artist!

From the kitchen… Let’s just say, nothing much exciting has been happening in my kitchen this week. I had grand plans, but we had some soup, spaghetti and tortellini.

I am wearing… I changed into my warm, fuzzy pajamas. It was so cold in church today that I came home and wrapped myself up in a blanket for a while before I could even change out of my church clothes. Brrrrrr… I have my fuzzy slipper on, but my feet feel pretty because I got a pedicure! Another friend from my neighborhood who has also been battling breast cancer finished all of her chemo and radiation and last week got her reconstruction finished. So we went out and got pedicures to celebrate!

I am going… Big announcement! Jeff and I are going away together for the first time in 9 years (other than the occassional over night trip)! We are leaving on Wednesday and I am getting really excited! It is an early anniversary trip. Another disclaimer: we got a really great discount on the trip and had actually booked it like 18 months ago and never confirmed when we were going to go. So the company called us in November and said that we would lose our deposit if we didn’t go by the end of December. Jeff ended up talking them into letting us go in January, so we are going… Yay!

I am reading… We took the kids to the library on Thursday night and I found some promising books. I just started The Mercy Seller by Brenda Rickman Vantrease. It is the sequeal to the Illuminator, which I read a while ago a really liked. It a historical novel set in the 1400’s. I am really enjoying it so far.

I am hoping… The kids are out of school tomorrow and Tuesday. I am hoping to take them to a movie tomorrow. We still want to see Bride Wars and we are hoping to meet up with some friends tomorrow afternoon to see it. I am also hoping that my friend Susan continues to feel good and can work on her jewelry, which I know she loves.

I am hearing… Nothing! It is so quiet. Everyone is asleep. I can even hear the clock ticking! It is so peaceful as I sit here all bymyself by the light with the fireplace going. It is a nice time to reflect and think…

Around the house… I have a home improvment project that I have been meaning to start, but time just keeps slipping away from me. It looks like I need to wait until I get back from my trip before I can start on it. Maybe at the end of next week. I also bought some fabric quite a while ago that I am going to recover my chairs in my kitchen with so I need to find time to work on that…

One of my favorite things… I love working with my hands and making things. Last week I got my jewelry supplies out and started working on some projects. I have a few things I am working on.

I hope you have a wonderful week! Check out the other entries of The Simple Woman’s Daybook here.

The Simple Woman’s Day Book: January 5th, 2009

5 Jan

For today, January 5th, 2009

Outside my window: The day is overcast and cloudy. It is supposed to start snowing any minute. It has been very cold. I think the temperature right now is about 12-degrees. I don’t mind the snow or cold as long as the sun comes out every few days. It was very sunny on Saturday so I guess it can be cloudy today…

I am thinking: I am so happy and thrilled to have discovered this blogging world. The mail came today and I received a package from my darling friend Marie of Oak Cottage with five of her beautiful, whimsical, sweet cards. Marie is so talented and such a wonderful friend. I also received a card from my friend Miranda (A.K.A. Duckie, from A Duck in her Pond). Duckie is also a very special friend and is a wonderful writer. She has a book of fantastic Christmas stories that I was lucky enough to order and I love them. I also received a package from Zenni Optical. I blogged about them in September. I will let you know tomorrow what was in the package…

I am thankful for: I am so thankful for my cute little family. We had such a wonderful Christmas with our family, gradparents, aunts, uncles and of course the cousins. What a magical Christmas we enjoyed. It is sad that Christmas is over, but our relationships are a blessing. I am so thankful for family in my life.

From the kitchen: I am trying to get rid of all of the sugar and bad things that have accumulated over the holidays. Of course that means I am eating all of it (lol). I am going to try to make it to the grocery store. I am working on getting some healthy recipes to make this week. I love making soup in the crockpot. So that is what I will probably make tomorrow night.

We had a really wonderful lesson yesterday in our church women’s auxiliary meeting. We are adopting the 12-step program and applying it to our lives this year. I was trying to figure out which weakness I needed to work on. I made a New Year’s resolution to give up sugar. Then last night I was online checking some blogs and I ate an entire roll of life savers. That resolution didn’t last long. I am thinking that I need to start learning about that program to help me with this sugar problem…

I am wearing: I am wearing my usual uniform: jeans,a shirt and boots. I live in my jeans because they are so comfortable. The top I am wearing is a turquoise thermal hoodie with cute little fabric-covered buttons. Since it is so cold, I probably should have worn a sweater today but I will soon be putting on my coat to go take Ella to the doctor’s for her annual birthday check-up.

I am creating: Gosh, I have been so busy with Christmas that I haven’t been making much lately. One of my friends is helping with a charity drive and has asked me to design a necklace for an auction. I have a pretty good idea in my head of what I am going to make so maybe later I can get my jewelry supplies out and begin making that.

I am going: I am taking Ella in for her doctor’s appointment in about 10 minutes and then my other daughter has an orthodontist appointment. Then I am going to try to make it to the grocery store.

I am reading: Jeff got me a John Grisham book for Christmas. I was working on the Twilight Series and was about to beign the last book, but I got derailed by this John Grisham one. I am almost through with it. I enjoy John Grisham but I find that most of his books are basically the same and I get a little bored…

I am hoping… That everyone remains healthy. Ella and I had strep and are on antibiotics and my mom is down with a bad cold. I hope that everyone rallies and feels better. It seems like there is a bad strain of the flu going around. I hope we don’t get that…

I am hearing: We rented a video for Ella from Blockbuster over the weekend. Max and Ruby. She is watching a disk with like 10 episodes. I will be glad to turn that off and head out to the doctors soon.

Around the house: I spent the morning working on cleaning the house. It is all vacuumed, dusted, bathrooms cleaned, counters wiped off and shelves de-cluttered. It feels so clean and fresh. Of course it will probably stay that way until the other three children come home, but it feels great right now.

A few plans for the rest of the week: I’m trying to get back into the routine of real life *sigh*. The kids headed off to school this morning. I am in charge of a program over at the school and so I will probably be spending a lot of time this week over there working on the program. I am hoping to go on a date with Jeff this weekend. I want to see the new Brad Pitt movie: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. So maybe we will be able to do that. If you have seen it, let me know what you thought. Is it worth seeing?

Here is a picture thought I am sharing: We made it to the doctors. Everything went well.
