Guest Project — Love Birds Wall Hanging {tutorial}

28 Apr
 Hello all you wonderful Tatertots &Jello followers!
I am beyond excited to be here sharing a tutorial with you today. I met Jen at CHA this past January and wasn’t a bit surprised at how nice she was. If you get a chance to meet her you won’t be sorry.
 My name is Dresden and I absolutely love blogging!
My blog is dresdencarrie where I share tutorials, my favorite things, recipes, and just about everything else. I work full time as a Graphic Designer for Silhouette America and love it! It is such a fun place to work and I am so grateful for my job. In my free time I post on my blog and sew. My mom taught me to sew growing up and I am so glad she did, it is my favorite hobby.
Today I am sharing a tutorial for a wall hanging I made out of some scraps of fabric and an old frame I had laying around (actually a wedding gift that I wasn’t too fond of :))! The inspiration for this piece came from a pillow found here and a card found here.

 First I took this frame and painted it a nice white color so it would stand out against the fabric I chose.
 Next I cut out all these little birds using the Silhouette with the Fabric Interfacing on my fabric.
Then I arranged the birds on my piece of fabric, which actually didn’t take too long after I got out my giant ruler.
You want to know my favorite thing about the fabric interfacing from Silhouette? It is double sided, so once I had the birds in place I simply ironed them on and they stayed in place the whole time I was sewing them on. You could of course use the no-sew interfacing, but I prefer the sewable because I love the stitched look.
I chose a tiny zig-zag stitch in pink to give them a little more character. After sewing it you could either wash the entire piece or do what I did…use my fingernails to fray the edges.
Once they were sewn on I put it in the frame and there ya go!
 It’s been a real treat being here today! I hope you’ll come visit me over at dresdencarrie real soon!

Thanks Dresden. that is absolutely adorable!!
Check out these other wonderful ideas that Dresden has shared:

{Check out this beautiful Ruffled Skirt that she made – love!}

You will love following Dresden. Plus, you can find out all of the Silhouette updates πŸ™‚

Getting Creative at Creative Estates — Spring Bunting Canvas!!

19 Apr

There were a few reasons that Creative Estates was so awesome. One was meeting so many fabulous ladies. Another was the weather. And the third reason I loved it was that it totally recharged my creativity. Being in a room with so many other, creative women was amazing!!

{Ashley, Bev and Becca sporting their beautiful necklaces}
In addition to breakout sessions and speakers, there were some fun creative classes!! The Lifestyle Letterpress class was fun with demonstrations on what their letterpress system could do. Bev from Flamingo Toes taught a class on how to make a beautiful Anthro-inspired necklace that was just stunning.
And I helped Kami from No Biggie with a fun creative project using products from DecoArt and The Canvas Corp. I made up a sample canvas — a little Spring Bunting Sign to help get people’s creative juices flowing.
But what I LOVED was seeing people take the same materials and create such different and FUN creations!!!

{she made a canvas of her logo}

A big thank you to DecoArt and The Canvas Corp for sparking our creativity!!!
Do you ever get in a creative rut?
What do YOU do to spark YOUR creativity??
PS if you want to make a canvas like my inspiration one, it’s SO easy!!
All you need to do is paint your canvas. Then cut out a bunting stencil {I have a few extra, so if you want one, leave me a comment and I will send them out to the first commenters}. Then stencil a little word at the bottom. and finish it off by hot gluing a little bit of Baker’s Twine to the top. A cute Spring addition to an entry table πŸ™‚

Project Organization 2011 — Drawer organization in 15 minutes that won’t slide around!!

11 Apr
from the side
I am not naturally a very organized person,

but there have been so many wonderful projects floating around the blogworld lately that have really inspired me to try to get my home a little more orderly.
from the side
I’d love to share my latest project with you –
My $6 Makeup Drawer Makeover!!
before
My makeup drawer is always a mess. I am embarrassed to show you the before picture – it is terrible. Basically all of my makeup, lotions and toothpaste is shoved in a drawer. This drawer definitely needed a makeover!

containers
I found these containers at my local Dollar Tree.
velcro
A couple months ago I saw this post from Kusak’s Closet that inspired me to use velcro!
I picked some up at Walmart — $2.
clean it out
So I cleaned out my drawer – finally!!
on the bottom
And then I put a few pieces of adhesive-backed velcro on the back of each of the Dollar Store containers.
put in the drawer
That way when I slide the drawer in and out, the containers stay in place. Such a good idea!!
from the side
I divided the containers up according to – tooth care, lotions and creams, foundations and concealers, brushes and makeup applicators.
bowls lip gloss
And I put a couple of stainless steel bowls with velcro on the bottom – one for lip glosses and another for  tweezers and trimmers.
another view
Ahhh. It feels so good!! I showed my husband and he said he has never seen my makeup drawer looking like that in all the time we’ve been married – HA!
after
This velcro trick would work great in any type of a drawer – from your office, to your kitchen to your craft room!
Happy Organizing!!
PS — check out Little Miss Momma for a fun Barn Owl Primitives giveaway to benefit single mothers’ this Mother’s Day!!

PPS — are you wondering where the GIVEAWAY Monday post is??? Just a hint — I have a really extra cool giveaway scheduled for Wednesday this week instead. I like to mix things up around here – lol!!
