Trendy Tuesdays: Pumpkin Topiary

29 Sep
I was at Michael’s Craft Store over the weekend picking up supplies for another project, when I spied these white pumpkins. They were on sale – 40% off.  I saw white pumpkins on some blogs and really liked the look. Manuela at Pleasure of Home put a crown on hers and I loved it. So I came home and scrounged through my craft supplies and found some ribbon, paint, stickers, an old dowel and some spray paint and voila — a new pumpkin topiary.
This is a 15 minute project. If you want to make one, here is the tutorial:
Supplies:
  • 3 pumpkins in 3 different sizes
  • some stickers
  • a 3 foot long wooden dowel (you can find them at any hardware store)
  • off-white spray paint
  • some medium-width ribbon
  • black paint
  • some glue dots or a glue gun
  • Gorilla Glue Epoxy
https://i1.wp.com/www.mcguckin.com/images/9403456.jpg
Directions:
  1.  Spray paint your wooden dowel and let it dry.
  2. Take the largest pumpkin and paint large circles over it in a random pattern. Let dry.
  3.  Take the two smaller sized pumpkins and apply your stickers to the center front side of each.
  4. Once your dowel is dry, stick it into your pot deep enough so that it is securely anchored.
  5. Take a large knife and cut a hole in the top and bottom of your largest pumpkin. The hole should be just big enough for the dowel to fit through.
  6. Slide the pumpkin down the dowel so it sits at the bottom.
  7. Do the same thing to the middle sized pumpkin.
  8. Cut a hole at the bottom only — of the smallest pumpkin. This hole needs to be very tight — make it small.
  9. Push the top of the dowel through the small hole of the smallest pumpkin.
  10. Apply a small dab of Gorilla Glue Epoxy where the pumpkin and the dowel touch to secure the pumpkins to the dowel. Let dry.
  11. Wrap ribbon around the middle of the biggest pumpkin and secure using glue dots or a glue gun.
  12. Cut 3 lengths of ribbon that are long enough to wrap around the wood dowel. Secure the ribbon to the dowel using glue dots or a glue gun.

And you have your self a new pumpkin topiary!
Have a Terrific Tuesday!

Trendy Tuesdays: Fall Boots

1 Sep

I know I am in denial that Fall is coming. Okay, I know that school has started again, as have the soccer games. But now that it is actually September, I guess I have to concede defeat: Summer is officially over. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Fall. In fact, it might even be my favorite season. But I know that when Fall is over, Winter will be here with mountains of snow and all the coldness that goes along with it.
So now that I have admitted that Fall has started, it actually gets me excited for Fall clothes! And there might be nothing more exciting to me than shopping for the perfect pair of Fall shoes/boots. So I would like to introduce you to my favorite Fall boots — Part One: ankle bootsAren’t these fabulous? I got them from Target – so very affordable too! I love the color and the details. Those copper studs are so fun.

My second pair of Fall finds aren’t technically boots, but almost. I love the lace up detail and the shape with the open toes. Very fun. I actually wore them to church on Sunday and they are soooo comfortable! These are from Target too!

Some other Fall boots that I love are:

If you want to splurge: Anthropologie Narration boots $168

A bigger splurge: Piper Lime: Nyssa boot: $485

Nordstrom Kelsie boot: $199

And Target’s Kandace boot: $29.99

Trendy Tuesdays: Fit Flops — Fabulous? or Fashion Faux Pas?

16 Jun

Have you heard of these shoes that claim to help you exercise while going about your normal life? I am always up for something that helps me get healthier while exerting no extra effort. Do these shoes really work?

______________

One brand, MBT has many different varieties of shoes and they are kind of cute. Here’s what they claim.

MBT shoes are designed to provide a pro-body experience with every step. MBT shoes increase muscle activity; improve circulation, posture and balance; tone legs, hips, abs and gluteus; reduce stress and pressure on the back, feet and joints; and help with pain and injuries. Wearing MBT shoes makes traversing ordinary hard surfaces as beneficial to your body as walking on soft, uneven, terrain. With MBT shoes, all the world’s a gym!

While another brand of shoe, Fit Flops, claims a similar story:

How does the FitFlop make you fitter? Every step you take in the FitFlop helps tone and trim your legs, improve your muscle tone, increase muscle activity and circulation, improve your balance and posture, and burn calories. In fact, FitFlops are biochemically engineered to absorb shock, lessen joint strain and recreate the gait of barefoot walking-but with a powerful new built-in microwobbleboard workout-enhancing effect.

What do you think?
Would you be seen in these shoes?
Do you think they do anything to make you fitter?

Trendy Tuesdays: If I Could Have A Do-Over

20 May
I had the best time this weekend visiting with my two college roommates. We hadn’t all been together in 15 years! It was so fun to laugh and reminisce about our funny college times. I am excited to post pictures soon of our reunion soon!{photo by Rebekah Westover Photography}

One of my roommates just got engaged. I am so excited for her. She wants to have a 40’s-inspired wedding dress – how cool is that? It got me thinking about my own wedding. My tastes have changed so much since then. Wouldn’t it be fun to plan a wedding now? What would I choose?

***

I think I would choose a clean, classic silhouette.

{Vera Wang dress, picture from Alta Moda}{Adrianna Papell Laser Cut Satin Gown}

With some great details.
Or maybe I would opt for a classic suit or tea-length dress.

If you could have a re-do, what would you pick?
Would you stick with your original dress or go with something completely different?

Trendy Tuesdays: What to wear to the pool?

12 May

If you’re like me, you dread going to the pool. But if you have kids, they are going to want to swim when it gets hot. In comes the tankini: the answer to a mom’s poolside clothing dilemma. It covers up what needs to not be seen, but is much more comfortable, stylish and convenient than a one-piece. And thankfully, there are many cute tankini options out there that won’t break the bank. Here are some of my favorites this season:

+++++++++++++

The Babette from Layers. Top $42, bottom $26.

The Bora Bora tankini from Shade. Tankini $36.50. And matching board skirt! $24.50.

Seaside Seersucker suit by J Crew. Top $50, bottoms $44.

The Sausalito tankini from Downeast Basics. Tankini $29.99 and cover up skirt (in many colors) $24.99.
and also from Downeast Basic, the Zuma suit:

Brooklyn Tankini by Lime Ricki. Top $35 and bottoms $30.

This is the cover up I am lusting after:

And pair it with these sandals, all you need is your pool bag and you’re ready to go!

Have a Terrific Tuesday!
