10 Sep
It’s Friday — my favorite day of the week!!

This week’s giveaway is from an adorable shop — Signs by Andrea.

The thing I think I love most about Andrea’s signs are the fact that each of her signs is made from repurposed wood!

Here’s the sign Andrea made me – I love it on my Beachy Mantel.
I think these Plain Initial Signs would be so cute on each child’s door.

And there are all sorts of other signs you can get at Andreas site too.

Another thing that Andrea makes and I love are her

Stenciled Napkin Pillows for my banquette — with Royal Design Studios!! {tutorial}!!

9 Sep
I have been on a bit of a stenciling kick this summer…
stenciled projects
I stenciled a Chevron rug,  a Spray Painted Circle Rug, and then I tackled my kitchen window with some Faux Roman Shades and some painted pillows for my kitchen banquette.

And yesterday I stenciled this rug for my family room — only with thicker stripes!! It turned out SOOO good!! I’ll be sharing that soon.

I thought it might be fun to make some pillows for my Kitchen Banquette with Royal Design Studio stencils and some white and patterned napkins I found at Target. {these are the Chain Link and Lattice Endless Circle Stencils}

Super easy!!
stenciled napkin pillows header
Here’s how to make them —

Stenciled Napkin Pillows

stenciled napkin pillows collage
  1. The first thing I did was I mixed up some paint and Martha Stewart’s paint medium. This makes the paint softer and washable.
  2. Then I laid the napkin on my work surface and taped the Royal Design Studio – Chain Link Stencil and Endless Circles Stencil over the top with some painter’s tape.
  3. I used this really cool roller top that fits on top a container and it makes stenciling a breeze. It’s also from Martha Stewart’s new decorative paint line.
  4. Once it was painted, I laid the napkins out to dry.
  5. Then I sewed another napkin to the stenciled side and added a zipper.
So now I have some fun pillows that go with my new kitchen décor AND they were super easy to make!!

I love Royal Design Studio because they have amazing, modern design AND their stencils are made out of the highest quality materials and they have guide marks that make lining up the stencils on a wall a breeze.

Have a Fantastic Friday!!!

PPSDid I say FRIDAY??? It’s my favorite day of the week. Why??? It’s almost time for the Weekend Wrap Up Party!! It’s YOUR time to show off what YOU have been doing. I love featuring YOU!!! The party starts at 6 pm MST.

See you then!!!

Halloween Chevron Wreath {tutorial}!!

8 Sep

{{Happy Halloween}}
lol – I know it’s a little early but I just can’t help myself!
I think I’ve ordered every chevron color that is in existence.
Yes, I
may have a problem.

But I thought — how cute would it be to make a
Halloween wreath out of THREE of my favorite things — CHEVRON, BAKERS
TWINE
and GLITTER???

So that’s what I did. And let me tell you — this is a fast and easy project. And the end result is a whimsical tribute to one of my favorite holidays!!

Here’s how to make one:

 1. Supplies — Wreath Form. Fabric cut into 3 inch wide strip, black cardstock, bakers twine, black glitter and coordinating fabric to hang the wreath.
2. Wrap the wreath form with the chevron fabric.
3. Hot glue bakers twine onto the wreath. I get my baker’s twine from Twisted Sugar Twine. Pull the twine tight.
4. Cut out bats. I made mine with my Silhouette. But you could punch them out with a punch too.
5. Glitter the bats. I Mod Podged them and then sprinkled the glitter over the top.
6. Hot glue the bats to the twine.
7.Hang the wreath with some ribbon, or I hung mine with a couple strips of black and white chevron.
8. Hang up the wreath. I used 3M Command Hooks. That way if I want to take it down later, there is no hole or damage to my Aqua Pantry Door!

So tell me — have you started making Halloween projects? What are YOU making?? I would love to know. I made ANOTHER Halloween Wreath today — with materials all from the Dollar Store. I’ll be sharing that one next week 🙂 It’s kind of a Gothic/Glam Halloween Wreath!

xoxo

And speaking of Halloween — have you seen the Haunted Mirrors floating around blogland?? I made one the other day and it inspired me to make a Spooky Mirror round up over at Babble. Check them out – they are SUPER spooky and fun!!

Halloween Eye Chart Pillow & Printable!! {plus file sizes to print it BIG!}

Chevron Halloween Eye Chart Pillow
You may know this about me —
I am a Halloween fanatic.
I get so excited when Fall hits!!!halloween eye chart printable chevron

I have loved seeing eye chart projects lately and I thought it would be so fun to make one for Halloween!! I made a Halloween Eye Chart Pillow for this spooky season, and then, just for fun I made a printable to share with YOU!
halloween eye chart pillow
{and.. scroll down to the end to get the FREE **Printable** Eye Chart Files!!}
To make the pillow, this is what I did:

5 steps
  1. I created the eye chart in my Silhouette Studio program.
  2. I flipped the lettering so that it was backward.
  3. I printed out the lettering on Heat Transfer Paper.
  4. I ironed the lettering onto white canvas.
  5. I cut out the chevron material – 1 inch longer in width and length than the pillow form.
  6. I pinned the lettered fabric to the chevron front panel and used a zig zag stitch to sew the pillow together.

Now I have a fun little pillow for this Spooky Season!!
And — I made a printable version to share with you!
All you need to do is click on the download button and you can print off a copy for your home.
And I included a little chevron just for fun!!
You can choose between Orange or Grey.

Here’s the orange version:

PLUS, I have also included a way to print these off BIG!!
Here is a link to the .JPEG files — so you can send these down to Costco or similar and get them printed out in a BIG size!!

The one I printed fits PERFECTLY in an Ikea 19 3/4 x 15  1/2 frame (IKEA Ribba (200.783.33)). You can send the file down to Costco and they can print it up THE SAME DAY. It cost $6 to print!!!

Here’s the full collection of PDF printables, hosted on Scribd.
Just click the download button to download the PDF. If you’re going to print these at Costco or some other photo processing shop, you might prefer to use the .JPG or .PNG files, linked below the Scribd files.

Note that there are five (5!) versions. The first is a “fancy” version that includes all of the classic eye chart numbers and frippery.

The two 8.5 x 11 ones are above, and here’s the PDF version of the “fancy” one in 8.5 x 11. After that I’ve linked all the sizes in PDF, JPG and PNG.

Fall Embroidery Hoop Door Hanging {tutorial}!!

6 Sep
I have LOVED all of the fun tutorials featuring embroidery hoops floating all over blogland lately.
There are so many awesome projects using these humble sewing tools.

ashley at the flaunt store

So when my *CUTE* sister Ashley called me up asking what a trendy Fall Wreath project would be — of course I answered — “something with embroidery hoops”.
And here’s her fun and whimsical Fall Embroidery Hoop Door Hanging!!

I love it!!

 Here’s how to make one:

Take it away Ashley —
Supplies:
10″ embroidery hoop (or whatever size you want to use)
Linen or fabric to place in center of hoop
embroidery thread
fall colored felt
burlap garland (I found mine at Jo-Anne’s in the floral section)
  • First off, I put the linen fabric in the center of the embroidery
    hoop.
I made it taut and left the extra fabric hanging out the sides.
You will need to tighten the fabric again at the end.
  • Decide on what you want the wreath to say and sketch it out on
    the fabric.
I chose the saying “hello fall” and used the two different
fonts to make it interesting. I had to google how to embroider and used
this website as my guide: Needle ‘n Thread. I used the
chain stitch for “fall” and the stem stitch for “hello”.
  • After I had the phrase embroidered on the fabric, I started cutting
out leaves and grouping them together.
I also used some leftover fabric
from a tank top that I shortened to make some rosettes and to add
    interest.
  • Lastly, I added the burlap
garland around the edge as a ruffle.
I threw in a wide stitch through
the garland edge and pulled it tight until I had the right size. Once I
tied it off and brought the two edges together, I turned over the hoop
and hot glued the ruffle to the back of the wreath.
  • I love the bright colors of the design and natural textures of the linen and burlap together!

Thanks Ashley!!!

It is the ultimate in casual cool.
