Hello! My name is Madeline, and I’m the crazy crafter from over at Buttons and Bangles. Ok, so first, I wanna tell you how EXCITED I am to be guest posting over here at Tatertots and Jello! When Jen contacted me a few months ago asking me if I’d like to be a guest blogger over there, I literally squealed with delight, and then of course said Yes!
So, First I’ll tell ya a bit about me. I’m 12 years old, I homeschool, I love the Lord Jesus, and I am absolutely ADDICTED to crafting/sewing! I started sewing around the beginning of this year, after finding Disneys’ blog, Ruffles and Stuff. I have just been sewing away since then 🙂 Also, This is my first EVER time to guest post, So I hope it makes sense 🙂
Today I’m gonna share with you how to make these cute Holiday Ruffled Coasters!
As most of you know, December is usually the busiest month of the year, and most people are always having having company over! So, I figured some coasters would be fun to do, just to use at your house, or to tie up in some ribbon and give as a gift!
What you need:
A few different fabrics, about 1/8-1/4 yard each
4 tiles(Hexogon is all I had, But I would’ve used square)
Cork(by the roll)
Mod Podge
All normal Sewing Necessities
1. Make sure your tiles are clean, and ready to go!
2. Measure around your tile, as for we need to figure out our ruffle strip measurements. My tile was 14 inches around, therefor my strips were 28 in. long, and about 3/4 in. wide. Cut all 4 strips.
3. Ruffle your fabric! Make sure you don’t make it any shorter than the length of your tiles.Mine was 14 in.
4. Now take all the fabric that you are gonna use for your tiles, and cut a square of fabric to fit each tile. We’ll mod podge it on, and trim the rest of later, once it drys.
5. Got everything ready? Now it’s time to Mod Podge
6. Spread a layer of mod podge on your tile, and put the fabric on it, then coat the top. Repeat with the next 3. Once the first layer of Mod Podge drys, repear with another 1-2 layers.
7. Now take a tile, and using an exacto knife, trace and cut out 4 cork bottoms for the tile. If you haven’t cut through cork before, don’t worry, as long as it’s not to think, it really isn’t hard!
8. Now it’s time to trim the excess fabric around the tile off! You can do this with either an exacto knife, or with a pair of good scissors.
9. The next thing you need to glue the cork to bottom of the tiles, You can use either Gorilla glue or Hot glue, Gorilla glue would probably hold better, although that takes longer to dry! I used Hot glue, But if it doesn’t hold up, then I’ll go back through with gorilla glue!
10. Now, take your Hot glue gun, and put a strip of glue about 1/2 inch from the edge, and glue the ruffle, just glue as you go! Complete with the rest of them!
You’re done! Pretty easy, right? I hope the tutorial made sense! Now, go find a place in your house for them, or wrap em up and give em as a gift!
